“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7
Last month our church celebrated it’s 15th anniversary. This was a very anticipated event. T-shirts were made, a special service was planned and a slide show was created to share memories of the past 15 years. The anniversary service was very meaningful. There were two special songs sung by the choir. One song was sung in Cantonese and the second in English. It was beautiful to watch my American friends next to our Chinese friends all singing out in Cantonese together in praise to our God. As they sang I thought of the world wide Body of Christ and what heaven will be like one day. It left my eyes misty.
After the service was a potluck. Church potlucks at Grace are a bit similar to the ones I’m used to in the states. Similar in that the food is lined up on long tables and everyone walks through and chooses what interests them. But I guess that is where the similarities end. 🙂 The food choices were Chinese cuisine (with the exception of a few Pizza Hut pizzas) including a whole roasted pig! Yes indeed! Chop sticks of course were the utensils used for everything….seriously. I love that they use chopsticks to eat desserts and even a slice of pizza! 🙂
During the potluck there was a ‘Lucky Draw’, which is what we would call a raffle or a door prize. This was a fun time with lots of laughter and calling out! The boys enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did.
Before we left we were all encouraged to write down memories or things we were thankful for about Grace Baptist. These were written on paper leafs that were then attached to a large drawn rooted tree. It signified what God was doing in and among the people of Grace Baptist. A beautiful visual of the theme verse in Colossians….”rooted and built up in Him…” God is working in and among this small group of believers and we are privileged to be a part.
